PA Needs Teachers! Wolf's Plan to Attract and Retain Top Teaching Talent

This week, Governor Wolf unveiled a brand new strategy to help bring new teachers onboard in PA schools and keep the ones they have from abandoning ship.ย

ย

Hereโ€™s Five Fast Facts on Governor Wolf's New Strategy :

โ€

  1. ๐Ÿข Strategery - The strategy came out of feedback sessions held by the state's Department of Education and included education partners across PA. We hope there were no group project stragglers!
  2. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ Permanent Hall Pass - Ten years ago, about 20,000 new teachers entered the workforce in PA annually. Last year, only 6,000 did. This trend is worse than TikTok lip syncing.
  3. ๐ŸŽ“ Goal Getter - The new plan has a ton of goals. One of them is to have 21,600 college students enrolled in teacher preparation programs by August 2025.
  4. ๐Ÿ“š Diversity Matters - PA officials are also focusing on boosting diversity. Currently, more than 93% of teachers in Pennsylvania are white compared to only 64% of students.
  5. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Classroom Cash - Since 2015, the Wolf administration has increased education funding by more than $3.7 billion. This year, the budget received a massive increase of $1.8 billion.

โ€

๐Ÿ”ฅBottom line: This country totes has a teacher crisis on its hands. It's great that there's a plan for PA to put this big budget to work. But will it bring more teachers to local classrooms? We'll have to wait and see!
