Kids love Roblox, but the gaming platform is facing a ton of legal pressure nationwide. 🚧 Apparently, they’re not doing enough to keep kids safe, and Nevada’s one of the states getting settlement money to make things right. 💸
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Roblox settlement in Nevada:
- ⚠️ Road Blox - Roblox has reached a multi-million dollar settlement with Nevada over child safety concerns. The agreement includes nationwide updates to chat and gameplay features. It comes after officials raised questions about whether the platform was doing enough to protect young users.
- 💰 Mindful Money - The settlement also details how the money will be spent. As part of the deal, Roblox will spend $10 million to support programs for kids in Nevada. It will also put $2.5 million toward teaching online safety and working with law enforcement.
- 🕹️ Protection Plan - The platform is also making several updates aimed at protecting younger users. That includes verifying ages, expanding parental controls, and restricting chats for users under 16. The company plans to roll out the changes nationwide by early June.
- ⚖️ Runaround Sue - Roblox is facing a wave of legal action. More than 140 lawsuits have been filed in federal court, with additional cases brought by states including Louisiana, Nebraska, and Florida.
- 🙇 Safety First - People who filed lawsuits say Roblox didn’t do enough to keep kids safe. They claim the platform made it easier for harmful interactions to happen and didn’t warn parents about the risks. Roblox says it disagrees with those claims.
