Screw the Cubicle! The Lowdown on Return-to-Office Mandates

😫Return-to-office mandates are sweeping the nation. Are you “raging against the machine” and dreading the return to office life? You're not alone...

Elon Musk and his commercial real estate cronies might be trying to shove everyone back to the office but the people are saying otherwise. 📣According to recent survey results, forcing everyone back to #cubelife could backfire. 🌋

Here’s Five Fast Facts about returning to the office:

  1. 🏡 Home Is Where the Work Is - A recent survey found that approximately 56% of full-time employees in the US say their job can be done working remotely from home. Eight out of 10 of these "remote capable employees" currently work hybrid or remotely. Only two out of 10 are in the office full time. The survey also shows that only 6% of respondents want to work on-site full time.
  1. 💪 Nice Flex - Another survey found that when given the option to experience flexible work, 87% of folks take it. A separate report discovered 95% of people surveyed want flexible working hours. They also found that 72% of employees who don't get the flexibility they need will probably look for a new job within 12 months.
  1. 💰 I'd Give My Left Arm - Out of a survey of 3,500 workers, 61% said they'd take a pay cut if it meant they could work from home every day. Some of the respondents said they'd give up almost half their salary to do so.
  1. 👋 Smell Ya Later - Even though most employees were at their workplace five days a week before the pandemic hit, new hires still left their jobs at high rates. In a study of workplace data between 2010 and 2019 that included 200,000 US workers, 38% of employees who left an employer did so within their first year. An additional 17.5% left within the second year.
  1. 👯 Group Projects - Not everyone's a fan of remote work, and some research shows it's not all sunshine and rainbows. A recent study found that remote work boosts productivity in the short term, but it cuts down on collaboration and training of more junior workers. Young workers and women seem to be impacted the most.
