Should White-Collars Go Blue?

We talked recently about some strategies for landing a white-collar job in 2026. But what if you've done those things and still haven't grabbed that new gig yet? Well, there's another option out there, and we suggest you keep an open mind about it. Maybe ditching your soul-crushing desk job where you're Zoomed out and laid off every other Tuesday would be a blessing in disguise, and maybe a job that can't be replaced by a robot (at least not yet!) is actually the way to go. 1. 🏜️ What's Available - While white-collar office buildings are feeling more desolate than the Sahara Desert, blue-collar jobs are struggling with massive worker shortages.

2. 🤖 Robot Resistant - Blue-collar jobs are way tougher for AI to take over, meaning your earning potential climbs steep like a ladder (a real one you can actually climb, not the metaphorical corporate one that goes nowhere).

3. 👀 Seeing Double - One example is Crash Champions, a massive car repair chain that has exploded from 13 shops in 2019 to about 650 across 38 states. Service advisers there start around $60k after a short apprenticeship and can double to $120,000 in just 18 months. And you thought decades behind a desk was the only way to make bank...

4. 🧑‍🏭 The Wisdom Of Youth - Workers in their early 20s jumped into blue-collar roles a lot more: the share rose from 16.3% in 2019 to 18.4% in 2024 (though older workers are apparently still clinging to their spreadsheets and staplers).
