What’s cheap, entertaining, and fun for the whole family? No, it’s not an appearance from Temu Katy Perry at the Labor Day BBQ (baby, you’re not a firework)...🙀🌠
It’s a road trip, of course! If you didn’t plan a summer vacay, why not opt for a family drive around the great state of Pennsylvania? 🚘 Here, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite routes. Dig in! 👇
Here’s Five Fast Facts on road tripping around the Keystone State:
- 🫎 The Buck Stops Here - Want a road trip packed with equal parts nature and history? Hop onto the Bucktail Scenic Byway (AKA Route 120). This 100-mile route runs from Lock Haven to Ridgway in the central part of the state. Elk State and Sproul Forests are along the way and they’re top tier for fall foliage gawking. Make sure to stop for a pic at the “Top of the World” Bucktail Overlook.
- 🛣️ When Nature Calls - In Northern PA, Route 6 runs from the Ohio border to New Jersey. It’s 403 miles of impressive scenery, awesome photo ops, and charming towns to grab a quick bite. Don’t miss PA’s very own Grand Canyon, AKA Pine Creek Gorge. Fun fact: National Geographic named Route 6 one of the country’s most scenic drives.
- 🚙 Down In the Valley - If you’re in the southeastern part of the state, take a quick drive along the Brandywine Valley Byway. This 12-mile roadway starts in lovely Chadds Ford (pit stop at the winery) and ends up in Wilmington, Delaware. Plan to spend some time at Longwood Gardens. Feelin’ artsy? Pop into the Brandywine River Museum.
- 📍 Pastime Paradise - Stretching across six states, PA’s section of the Historic National Road is one for the books! There’s 620 miles total and the Keystone state is home to 90 of them. It’s nestled in PA’s southwestern corner. Highlights include Ft. Necessity National Battlefield (French and Indian War landmark), Nemacolin Castle, and the rural town of West Alexander..
- 🚣 The Scenic Route - Another southwestern PA gem is the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway. The route is made up of 68 miles of farmlands, forests, and even some waterfalls! Stop for a picnic in Laurel Hill State Park. End your journey in Ohiopyle State Park. Feeling adventurous? Book a whitewater rafting experience on the Youghiogheny River.
🔥Bottom line: What’s the best part about road tripping? The snacks! Or maybe it’s the singalongs. Either way, we’re spending some QT with the peeps we love. Psst…did you hear that PA health insurers want to hike prices on premiums? How rude! Find out if you’ll be impacted in this article.
