Silicon Valley Comes to Dairyland

Remote work is one of the best things to come out of the pandemic. Lots of people can now work their jobs WHERE they want to be. Plus, workers from non-tech-hub locations (ie. NOT San Fran, NYC, etc.) can get in on tech jobs without leaving their home towns. In fact, lots of Silicon Valley companies AND workers are now permanently relocating to the midwest or hiring midwest workers.

Even Wisconsinites are getting in on the tech-job boom!

Here’s FIve Fast Facts about how Silicon Valley jobs are growing in Wisconsin

  1. 🖥️ How Much? - A recent report shows job postings for remote tech jobs are up a ridonkulous 421%. That’s not a typo. Wisconsin has seen a 6.6% increase overall. That might seem small, but when you consider there are 7 million tech workers in America, that’s like 420,000 jobs.
  2. 💻Why? - Silicon Valley is the most expensive place to live in the country. Milwaukee is not. The difference between the two will make your butt clench. The average home cost there is 1,249,900. Here in WI: it’s $162,000. That’s a difference of $1,087,300. Also not a typo.
  3. 💾What companies? - Just about anyone! For example, major companies like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn now allow full-time work from home. But others, like Apple, are bringing people back (and the employees ain't happy.)
  4. 👨‍💻How much for us? - Tech workers in Madison, Appleton. and Milwaukee are seeing recent jumps in remote jobs: 7.9%, 6.3% and 5.8% respectively. That’s a lot of home office action!
  5. 👩‍💻Keeping Up - Even if a wisconsin tech worker doesn’t get a job with an out of state company, this growth in Wisconsin tech jobs will definitely help them in the long run. Think about it: local employers will need to step up with competitive salaries and benefits to keep their workers from taking their talents to jobs that weren’t previously available to them.

🔥 Bottom Line: If you work in tech and can work remote, there is no downside to this at all for the short term. Especially if local jobs are forced  to step up and make some sexy offers.
