Gov. Walz just announced his plan for economic expansion for the next 10 years. So what’s it say? What do you get out of it? Do you get anything at all?
Here’s Five Fast Facts About the New Economic Plan
- 🧾Who Did What - The plan was created by The Governor’s Council on Economic Expansion, made up of 15 business, labor and community leaders. They focused on the changes needed in public, private and nonprofit sectors to help bolster the economy.
- 💸The Important Part - The plan suggests spending $3.5M of taxpayer money now and $15-20M every year to market the state to potential employers and employees. There’s no explanation why money from the $9.25B surplus couldn’t be used for this.
- 🧒Expansion - The report suggests expanding child care (umm…), collaborating with employers and labor groups to prepare students for careers and expanding partnerships to help small business owners.
- 👮Build it All Up - It also includes suggestions for public safety, infrastructure, health care and improving job creation. There’s probably something in there too about making sure all puppies and kittens are cute and cuddly.
- 🤔Nice Thought - Many of the suggestions are vague, including using that taxpayer money to make Minnesota number one in the nation for teacher pay.
🔥Bottom line: The plan is filled with “no doy” suggestions. But it would be nice to have some absolutes, especially when it comes to where your money is going, as well as how it will be spent. Otherwise this is just an empty, flashy document that looks like an excuse for a smaller paycheck.
