Spring Cleaning: Personal Finance Edition

Spring has SPRUNG, baby! 🌷We are so here for warmer weather, baseball season, and longer days. 😎⚾ That seasonal depression felt extra depress-y this year and we're ready to shake off the winter ick.

While you're shaking the snow off your own boots, make sure to put your finances on your spring cleaning to-do list! 📝 Here, we're diving into some top tips to make your money feel all shiny and new.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to spring clean your finances:

  1. 🫣 New Year's…What? - Hey, remember those New Year's resolutions you made that vanished into thin air? Yeah, yeah, we know, they slipped right out of your mind. Well, now's the perfect time to pull them out of your memory bank and…actually hit those goals. Whether you want to save more, pay down debt, or make that big purchase, make spring the NEW new year.
  1. 🗃️ Junk in the Trunk - Ah yes, the dining room table. AKA where snail mail goes to die a slow, painful death. While you're tidying up the rest of the house, why not go through all those old bills and statements? Organize and file away what you need and throw away what you don't.
  1. 💳 Credit Check - When's the last time you checked your credit card's interest rate? Those bad boys are on the rise. If you carry a balance from month to month, you might be paying way more than you think you are. Take a look at what else is out there and consider a balance transfer to a card with a lower APR.
  1. 🏝️ Aruba, Jamaica - Dreaming of a getaway? Now's a great time to plan a trip for 2025. It may seem far away, but you'll have plenty of time to save and book the best flight and hotel deals. Plus, it'll be on your calendar for the whole family to look forward to. PS  - if you're headed out of the USA, check those passports and renew them far in advance.
  1. 📋 Estate of Affairs - If you haven't had a peek at your estate plan in a while, dust that baby off and review it. If you've had any major life changes, like marriage, divorce, or a new baby, you might need to update your plans. Don't forget to review and make updates to your beneficiaries, too.

🔥Bottom line: There's nothing better than a clean house on a spring day with all the windows open. It might even be the freshest smell on Earth. Keeping your finances clean smells good, too. Just trust us on that one. Short on cash? Thinking of tapping your retirement money a little early? Read this article before you make any moves.
