In an increasingly technical world, building robots 🤖 isn’t just an imaginative recreational activity for young kids anymore - it’s a real life necessity! Nebraska is taking steps to prepare our youth to thrive in highly technical career fields.
Here are Five Fast Facts on the Developing Youth Talent Initiative for specialized STEM careers:
- 💰Who Got The Money? Two Nebraska companies, MetalQuest and 21st Century Equipment, were awarded $125k each in grants from the state to help kids begin learning highly technical career fields like robotics. Legos have suddenly become college prep tools!
- 🏫📝What Will They Do With It? These companies will use the grant money to impact thousands of students in 15 counties. They will help schools create educational curriculum for robotics and coding/navigation software specifically for agriculture. Farmers need robots, too, you know.
- 🤓When Will It Happen? The curriculum initiative begins as early as 7th grade and continues through high school and college, introducing careers in manufacturing, IT, engineering, and health care. It’s never too early to start!
- 👨💻👩💻What’s It Solving? There is a critical need for professionals qualified in IT, science, and math to help address labor shortages. Calling all techies…!
- 📈How’s It Done So Far? The grants have benefited over 24k students since the DYTI was formed in 2015. That’s a lot of grown-up Lego potential!
🔥Bottom line: From Mindstorms to manufacturing, this is a great initiative to prepare our youth for the career fields of tomorrow! Might as well get ‘em started early - the faster they get there and the better they are, the better those Paychecks will be! Oh, and society, too. We like a win-win situation!
