Student Teachers to Receive Paychecks

Being a teacher is hard. Loud kids, loud bosses, even louder parents…

But being a student-teacher is even harder because you get to deal with all that without a paycheck. But that could be changing soon in Michigan.

Here’s the Five Fast Facts you need to know …… :

  1. 👩‍🏫 Free Labor - Right now, college students graduating with degrees in teaching are required to get classroom experience. But they don’t get paid for it. And that sucks because we all know college kids are broke.
  2. 💲💲 Cash money - Michigan House Bill 6013 seeks to change that by providing student teachers a stipend of $90/day.
  3. 🎉 A little somethin somethin - Teachers who mentor these student teachers would also get a $1,000 bonus.
  4. 🎣 Reel ‘em in - Michigan has been experiencing a teacher shortage, and supporters of this bill think this will help attract students into the field and reward those who support them.
  5. ⭕ Pass it round - The bill passed the House with complete support and without debate (crazy, right?). Now it heads to the Senate, where it is also expected to pass.

🔥Bottom line: Being a teacher is a thankless job these days. So if we’re going to attract more people to the profession, there needs to be some incentive to do the job - especially for college students.
