Summer Road Construction in Michigan: What You Need to Know

You know the joke – there are two seasons in Michigan; winter and construction.

Well, it’s construction time. Let’s look at how road work will affect your summer plans.

Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :

  1. 💨Slow Down, Speedy Gonzales - Are you a lead-foot Larry on the roads? Well, you better watch it. Speeding fines are doubled in all Michigan work zones. And if proposed House Bill 5750 passes, your chances of getting caught will skyrocket thanks to a high-tech system that will snap a picture of your license and send you a ticket in the mail.
  2. 🅿️ Park it like it’s hot - Summer 2022 will see the most road construction in the history of Michigan roads. Which is what we’ve asked Big Gretch for since her election, right? To fix the damn roads? Well, buckle up cuz here we go. Here’s a list of the most significant projects this summer.
  3. ❓💲 But why now? It’s no secret the roads have been awful for years. So what’s with the sudden barrage of construction cones popping up now? There are a few reasons that all start and end with money. The gas tax implemented a few years ago has now accumulated enough money to make a difference, and we have some federal money coming too.
  4. 💀 Escape is futile - We hate to break it to you, but even escaping to the great up north will not save you from the cones. If you’re considering fleeing Metro Detroit, be aware that projects kick off this week in Antrim, Arenac, Calhoun, Charlevoix, Houghton, and Saginaw Counties.
  5. 🗺️ Plan, plan, and plan some more - If you are going to make a break for it, be sure to check the real-time construction list. Plan to take side roads when you can. It could save you time and a lot of heartache.

🔥Bottom line: Look, we’re all just going to have to accept the construction. We’ve wanted these roads fixed for years, and now is the time. So let’s put on our patience and get ready to enjoy a fantastic Michigan summer, cones be damned.
