Take Me Back, I’ve Changed! Boomerang Employees Deal With Regret

What’s that old saying? Don’t know what you’ve got 'til it’s gone? Apparently people who participated in the Great Resignation are finding out how true that is, because some of them want their old jobs back. 

There’s even a name for them: Boomerang Employees.

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Boomerang Employees:

  1. 🧑‍💼I Quit! An estimated 47.8 million people quit their jobs in 2021 alone! That’s four million people a month.
  2. 🤔Maybe Not - A recent study shows that 43% of people who quit their jobs now wish they hadn’t. Talk about buyer’s remorse.
  3. 👐Take Me Back? - Even crazier, nearly 20% of people who quit during the pandemic have gone back to the job they left!
  4. 👔Lesson Learned - It appears many companies hit by the great resignation have taken the hint and made changes to attract more employees.
  5. 😓Fool Me Once… - Not all bosses are happy to see Boomerang Employees come calling. They feel it sends the wrong message to current employees about loyalty. Unless of course you were a high-performing employee.

🔥Bottom line: The job market has descended into outright anarchy. The pandemic flipped the script on all of us and we had to make some big decisions. It’s also opened up the workforce on a massive scale. In many different industries, if you don’t like your current job someone else is waiting. If you miss your old job and can go back, prepare to eat some crow. There’s probably at least one employee who will never let you live it down. I’m talking about you, Judith.
