The 411 on TrumpRx

We got a fever…and the only prescription is more cowbell, baby. 🐄🔔 Gotta have more cowbell. On that note, time to binge watch old SNL episodes from the ‘90s. 🤣

In addition to the new Trump savings accounts, the President also recently rolled out a prescription savings program: TrumpRx. ⚕️ What’s the deal? Will it actually help you save on meds? We’re unpacking it here. 👇

Here’s Five Fast Facts on TrumpRx:

  1. 👩🏻‍⚕️ Flipping the Script - Launched in early February, the TrumpRx website lets people search for prescription drugs and compare discount options. It doesn’t actually sell medications, but it provides coupons or sends you to manufacturer sites where they can buy at lower prices.
  1. 💊 Hot List - At launch, TrumpRx listed 43 medications. The lineup includes common drugs like insulin, inhalers, popular weight-loss treatments such as Wegovy and Zepbound, and a version of Humira used to treat arthritis. The administration says more medications will be added over time.
  1. 💰 Pros & Cons - TrumpRx mainly helps people who don’t have insurance and are paying out of pocket. Privately insured peeps might see savings in certain cases, like when insurance doesn’t cover a brand-name drug. Medicaid users, however, are unlikely to benefit since most medications are already covered with minimal costs.
  1. 👀 Fine Print - All that said, big savings may not be guaranteed. Most of the medications on TrumpRx are already widely covered by insurance, and some have cheaper generic versions available. That means many consumers might not see much difference in price.
  1. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Art of the Deal - Some of the deals promoted on TrumpRx can already be found elsewhere. For example, Duavee costs $30.30 on TrumpRx, but the same price is available at some pharmacies via GoodRx. Wegovy’s $199 starting price on TrumpRx also matches what manufacturers were already charging.

🔥Bottom line: Listen, if Donny Boy’s gonna help us pinch some pennies, we’re here for it. If you’re thinking of using TrumpRx, be sure to check all of your options so you’re really getting the best deal.
