The Hero Pay Is On Its Way

Remember the Hero Pay the state was going to pay out to frontline workers? Checks have finally started rolling out but they’re considerably less than estimated.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Hero Pay Shortfall:

  1. 💸The Good News - A grand total of 1,025,655 Minnesotans are getting a check!
  2. 🤑The Less-Impressive News - The checks are for $487.45. That’s $263 less than was estimated.
  3. 📉Bad Math - Lawmakers expected 667,000 people to apply, with checks going out at $750 for each applicant. Clearly that didn’t happen. That kind of shows how out of touch the legislature is.
  4. ⛔Not For You - Around 215,000 applications were declined for a variety of reasons including an income higher than required or their job or ID couldn’t be verified.
  5. ‼️ Or For You - They also declined a surprising 47,000 duplicate applications. Declined applications were allowed an appeals process.

🔥Bottom line: How the state did not see this coming and course-correct, especially after the site crashed on the first day, is a mystery (they probably could have used money from the $9.25B surplus). But the important part is that people were finally recognized and rewarded. To be honest, frontline workers deserve far more than $487.
