Got a case of Ozempic face (yeah, it’s a real thing now)? 😱 We have the cure. Just walk on over to the nearest donut shop. A dozen a day’ll do ya! 🍩✅
Weight loss drugs like Ozempic are all the rage. Everyone from celebrities to your next door neighbor seems to be on the stuff. 💉 And because they’re so popular, one big-time drug company is setting up a new shop in the Keystone State. 🏭
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Eli Lilly’s plans for Pennsylvania:
- 💃 Skinny Mini - Eli Lilly is dropping $3.5B on construction of a new PA manufacturing facility for injectable weight-loss drugs. The Lehigh Valley site will produce tirzepatide (AKA Mounjaro and Zepbound) and retatrutide, a new drug currently in a Phase III trial.
- 💪 Working Out - Construction is expected to kick off this year with an estimated opening sometime in 2031. The site will create roughly 2,000 construction jobs while it’s being built. Lilly also plans on employing 850 people at the plant once it’s done.
- 🙋🏼♀️ Pick Me - Eli Lilly picked the Lehigh Valley after a search that pulled in more than 300 responses. Gov. Shapiro said PA missed out on a Lilly site about six months ago, which made officials rethink how to make Pennsylvania more competitive.
- 🤑 #WINNING - So far, Pennsylvania committed more than $100M to win Lilly over. The company will get $50M in tax credits, a $25M site development grant, and a $25M job creation initiative grant.
- 🚀 Sweeping the Nation - This new Lehigh Valley plant is part of Lilly’s $50B drive to boost stateside manufacturing operations. They started kicking things up a notch in 2020 with new sites in Alabama, Indiana, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Virginia, and Texas.
🔥Bottom line: Like them or not, weight loss drugs are here to stay. As demand kicks up, so will manufacturing. In other health related news, healthcare spending is (spoiler alert) a lot higher than it used to be. Wondering how far we’ve come (or strayed) since the ‘70s? Bounce over to this article.
