Smart clothing is jumping out of the pages of comic books and into real life! 🦸 A couple of buddies who worked together at several Columbus tech companies are joining forces to create some super suits. And they're planning to make Ohio their company's home.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on smart clothing in the Buckeye State:

  1. 🔌Smart Move - Founders of FlexEnergy, Ramachandra Revur and Suvankar Segupta, quit their jobs during the pandemic to make smart clothing full-time. They see themselves setting up a manufacturing facility within the next four to five years, bringing more jobs to Ohio.
  2. 👖 Smart Clothing? - Smart clothing is designed to communicate with devices like computers and smartphones through special electronic sensors. Many of today's smart clothing uses Bluetooth technology. 
  3. 🚑 Who Needs It? - Smart clothing is helpful to people like first responders and those who serve in the military. It can help monitor vital signs like body temperature and heart rate. It can also be used as a power source. Ya know, in case your phone dies at a festival.
  4. 🛫 Outfits Enlisted - FlexEnergy has two patents with the US Air Force. Aim high!
  5. 🤑 Major Moolah - Smart clothing is expected to be a $5 billion industry by 2024.

🔥Bottom line: While the average Joe or Jane won't need to run out and buy a smart suit, this technology is a major breakthrough. And having a major smart clothing manufacturer in Ohio is exciting news for the state's economy!
