College is great for some people – especially those people who have help paying for it. But is it the best route for everyone? No.
So if you’re not bouncing to college right after high school, you might want to consider a job in one of these high paying fields. No degree required.

- ⚙️ Stationary Engineer - Do you like big machines? Does making things make you happy? Then consider a job in stationary engineering, where you operate industrial equipment. Average salary: 80k/year.
- 🏘️ Real Estate Broker - Do you find yourself obsessively scrolling Zillow, or peering into your neighbor’s windows at night to get a glimpse of how they’ve decorated? Real Estate might be your jam. As a broker, you’re responsible for overseeing the transactions between sellers and buyers. Average salary: $81k/year
- 💌 Professional Blogger - No, really, we’re not joking. If you have a talent for writing the words, a freelance writing gig may be for you. Companies all around Michigan are looking for talented writers to contribute to their blogs. Bonus: you can wear your bunny slippers while working. Average salary: 60-80k/year
- ☢️ Nuclear Power Reactor Operator - Here’s an idea that will really make you glow.. (just kidding.) Nuclear Power Reactor Operators are responsible for the energy flow at nuclear plants. On the job training provided. Average salary: $88k/year
- 👷 Construction Superintendent - Construction is a very in-demand job right now, and that demand will keep growing thanks to federal infrastructure dollars being sent to states like Michigan. Average salary: $93/year
🔥Bottom line: College is great. There’s so much to drink – I mean do – on campus, that you’re sure to have a great time. But if you’re considering a different path (a debt free path, for instance) then you might want to consider one of these high-paying, non-degree-requiring jobs.
