The True Cost of Getting a Speeding Ticket in PA

Getting pulled over can really cost you. Not only are the fines pricey, but the jump in car insurance rates is a real kick in the muffler! 😤 And if you’re in Pennsylvania, buckle up. Speeding tickets are extra-expensive.  

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on speeding tickets in PA:

  1. 📈 Ready, Set, Hike! - If you get caught by cops going 11-15 mph over the speed limit, you could be in deep financial doo-doo. According to a recent LendingTree study on nationwide insurance rate hikes, PA came in 9th for the most expensive increases. 
  1. 💰 Rate Racer - In Pennsylvania, a speeding ticket tacks on an average car insurance premium hike of 26.6%. That shakes out to an annual increase of $566.50, or $47.21 a month. Compare that to the national average increase of 22.7%. 
  1. 🌞 Highs and Lows - If you think that’s bad, check out California. They’re by far the worst with average rate hikes of 42%. Need a palate cleanser (or a sunny drive down A1A)? Head to Florida. They have the smallest rate increases at 12.4%.
  1. 🏎️ Fast & Furious - When it comes to speeding tickets and insurance rate hikes, the cost often depends on how old you are. Nationwide, younger folks get hit harder. The average 20-year old gets smacked with a 28.9% increase.
  1. 🤕 On the Mend - Speeding tickets suck, but you can bounce back. Eventually, your insurance premium will come back down…as long as you steer clear of any accidents or additional violations. You could also shop around for a better deal with another provider.
