Did you forget about Valentine’s Day? How’s life in the doghouse treating ya? 🐕 Maybe you can spend what you should have on dinner and chocolate on a space heater. How’s that for heartwarming? ♨️♥️
If you’re a real Romeo, you treat your sweetie all year long! 😍 We’ve rounded up some V-Day spending stats and wrapped up a couple gift tips, too.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Valentine’s Day spending:
- 🍽️ The Yum Factor - Forget flashy gifts, most Americans just want dinner. One survey found that 61% say a romantic meal tops their Valentine’s wish list. Another 57% would rather have an experience like a trip or concert, while 46% prefer something handwritten and heartfelt.
- 👛 Loving Limits - Americans may be feeling romantic, but they’re also setting limits. This Valentine’s Day, Americans planned to spend an average of $87 on their partner. That’s significantly below last year’s budget of $155.
- 📈 Inflation Infatuation - Inflation is one reason Valentine’s Day budgets were tighter this year. Since early 2020, cumulative CPI inflation (which tracks everyday costs like food and gas) climbed about 26%. Survey data also showed that one in five coupled-up Americans planned to skip V-Day altogether.
- 🍬 On the Cheap - According to V-Day retailer data, cheap wins. Candy is the most popular gift, jewelry comes in last, and cards, flowers, and nights out fill the middle. The pricier the gift, the lower it ranks. DIY gifts can feel more meaningful, like cooking dinner together with jazz and candles.
- 👩❤️👨 Sweet Savings - Whether you're treating your honey on Valentine’s Day or throughout the year, don’t spend beyond your means. Instead, consider starting a “fun fund,” a little savings cushion for holidays and celebrations that keeps your credit card out of it.
🔥Bottom line: You know, true love isn’t about how much you spend. But you know what can help you get back on her good side? A spa day. Not all financial tips are worth listening to. Even some of the tried and true ones just don’t cut it anymore. Curious about which kind of advice to toss in the garbage? Check out this article!
