Warning: Road Improvements Ahead

Roads? Where we’re going we…do…need roads. Luckily Gov. Evers, along with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, announced that municipalities across the state will receive more than $103M for local roads and highways.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About Wisconsin’s Latest DoT Money:

  1. 🚗 Toll Road - Throughout 2023 local governments will get more than $525M in general transportation money. That’s a 2% increase over last year. Nice!
  2. 🚧 Small Town - Of that money, $99.6M goes to local governments for financial assistance to transportation and infrastructure projects. That means the rough street-from-hell in Oshkosh (you know the one we’re talking about) may finally get fixed.
  3. 🛣️ Hit the Highway - Another $3M is going toward highway aid in eligible towns and cities. That off-ramp in Janesville (again, you know the one we’re talking about) may also finally get repaired.
  4. 🚘 Fine Print - For reference: General Transportation Aid is used for building, maintaining, and operating roads that are under local jurisdiction. On the other hand, Connecting Highway Aid reimburses municipalities for maintenance and traffic control of State Highways that go through their boundaries. The key word there is “reimburse.”
  5. 🚨Bad Boys, Bad Boys - Finally, $225,975 went to the police in Milwaukee County in effort to help them police the expressways. Considering crime in Milwaukee is up 22.6% from last year, that’s probably a wise move.

🔥Bottom line: Infrastructure is important, especially since our tough winters take their toll on our roads. And since we have only two seasons up here — winter and road construction season — every little bit helps.
