Washington Declared Best State In Nation For Jobs

Personal finance website WalletHub released their annual comparison of the best states for jobs, and Washington WINS!!! 🥇

They looked at all 50 states across 35 indicators to measure the job market, opportunity, and the health of the local economy using several different surveys, BLS stats, and WalletHub’s own data. Let’s take a look at Five Fast Facts on why Washington is the best state for jobs:

  1. 👍 The Good - The Evergreen State landed in the top 10 in four different categories: monthly average starting salary (2nd), job opportunities (5th), median annual income (8th), and job satisfaction (8th). Can we say mic drop?
  2. 👎 The Bad - We could use some work in a few areas, including unemployment rate (24th) and average hours worked per week (18th). No one is perfect, but if our worst is still in the top half…we’ll take it!
  3. 😣 The Ugly - One notable specific weakness was average commute time. Uhhhh, can’t argue with that one.
  4. 👏 It’s The Little Things - Some specific strengths highlighted in the report include the presence of work-share programs, nondiscrimination laws, and earned income tax credits. Yup, all good stuff we love here.
  5. ❓🔍 Looking Ahead - It’ll be especially interesting to see how this changes – or if it changes at all – going forward, with the new pay transparency law kicking in on January 1.

🔥Bottom line: Some of these metrics have a direct connection to our Paychecks, some are more indirect. The big takeaway here is that we’ve got a lot of great stuff happening here, and it’s always good to get that recognition from the outside.
