Washington Rocks Green Jobs

We’re all about jobs here because jobs = Paychecks. An environmental organization called PromoLeaf recently looked at the US from the perspective of which state had the most “green jobs” and Washington State came in #3 on that list!

Here are Five Fast Facts on your (super green) Evergreen State:

  1. 🌱🌿How Many Jobs? There are an estimated 875k green jobs across the nation. These are jobs in companies that produce goods or provide services that conserve natural resources or help the environment.
  2. 📈What’s The Future Look Like? The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects green jobs will grow 8.6% over the next ten years. Sweet, that’s even more growth than inflation!
  3. 🤑🤑Do They Pay Well? The median salary for green jobs is $76k, 31% more than the national median salary of $58k. We’re not economists, but we’re pretty sure this is a large part of why green jobs are growing so quickly.
  4. 🏆How Does WA Compare? Washington has nearly 40% more green jobs than the national average, ranking behind only Alaska (48.1%) and Colorado (45%). In each of these three states, green jobs make up nearly 1% of all jobs. Small but mighty! 💪
  5. 🐟🌳How Did We Get Here? This isn’t surprising, given that Washington was built on renewable natural resources and natural industries, including forestry, fishing, agriculture, and hydroelectric power. Recent laws include targets of 100% clean energy and 100% clean electricity over the next 25 years. It’s kind of in our DNA, you know?

🔥Bottom line: Anytime we see good news about jobs, we celebrate it! The fact that these are high paying jobs is just icing on the cake. There’s so much natural beauty here, and we are very proud of our state! There’s a reason we try to take good care of it (also, we like those Paychecks)!
