WEDC Awards $1.5M to Cheese Producer

Gov. Evers kicked off National Dairy Month by announcing the state is backing an expansion of Masters Gallery Foods in Plymouth with a nice bundle of state tax credits. How cool is that?

Here’s Five Fast Facts about The Great Cheese Expansion:

  1. 🧀Big Cheese - The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is giving Masters Gallery Foods $1.5M in performance-based state tax credits toward an 110,000 sq. ft. addition for its facility in Oostburg.
  2. 🏗️Major Cheddar - So far, Plymouth has spent $23M on construction and $37m on equipment for the facility. The project will double the size of its production area and says it will create 105 new jobs, paying more than $23 an hour on average.
  3. 🧾Performance Based? - Basically, if Plymouth doesn’t adhere to the conditions of the credits (like the jobs created) in a set amount of time, they have to give the money back. Clearly we’ve all learned from Foxconn.
  4. 🪨Plymouth Rocks - Plymouth is considered the Cheese Capital of the World and up to 15% of the country’s cheese goes through Plymouth (side note: 67% of cheese goes through my uncle Mark). Smart optics on Evers’ part.
  5. 🤑 Are They Hiring? - Not just yet. Give them time to finish the building.

🔥Bottom line: The WEDC investment is just the latest of a batch of tax credits the State has been awarding businesses across all industries here in America’s Dairyland. It’s also one thing to create jobs, it’s another to create jobs with competitive pay well above the national average
