Campaign finance reports are the mother of all bank statement stories. Every donation, loan, and check leaves a paper trail. 📜 NV's latest filings spill the tea on who's raising serious money, who's digging into their own pockets, and which races are starting to take shape. 🕵️
Here’s Five Fast Facts on NV’s campaign finance reports:
- 🗣️ Money Talks - Gov. Joe Lombardo continues to take the fundraising cake. He has more than $14M on hand after raising $2.2M for his campaign and another $1.5M through an affiliated PAC. Aaron Ford has raised a record $1.5M for a challenger and has more than $2.7M available, but Lombardo still has a big money lead.
- 🚀 Booster Seat - Some campaigns are getting a big boost from the candidates themselves. In the race for Congressional District 2, Republican David Flippo loaned his campaign about $760,000, accounting for nearly all of the $785,000 it reported raising.
- 💰 Big & Small - Not all campaign money comes from the same kind of donor. Aaron Ford says about 90% of his 13,000 donations were $80 or less, showing broad support from small donors. Meanwhile, Lombardo's affiliated PAC brought in several six-figure gifts from major NV businesses
- 📈 Underdog Power - Most people already in statewide office seats are raising more money than outsiders. One of the few exceptions is the race for lieutenant governor. Assembly member Sandra Jauregui raised more than Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony, making this one of the only statewide races where the challenger has the money lead.
- 👛 Pay 2 Play - Campaign finance reports don't predict who will win, but they do show who's ready for the months ahead. Candidates with more money can stay on TV, hire staff, and keep reaching voters, while those with smaller budgets have less room for error.
