Here comes the sun…doo doo doo doo! 🎶🌅 Or whatever The Beatles said. Why did the chicken cross Abbey Road? To get to his Yolk-O Ono. 🍳
The Solar for All program’s goal is to reduce energy costs for folks in need. However, its future in the Keystone State could be in jeopardy. 🤔
Here’s Five Fast Facts on PA’s “Solar for All” program:
- 🔌 Penny For Your Thoughts - Back in April 2024, the federal government awarded PA funding to help low-income citizens cut energy costs. However, if state lawmakers don’t formally authorize the Solar for All program, that money ($156 million) can’t be spent.
- 🌞 Future So Bright? - Through the Solar for All program, over 12,000 homes could have solar installed over the next five years. If PA state legislature doesn’t make any moves, the funds will be returned to the sender. We’re up against a September 1st deadline.
- 💰 Under the Sun - Advocates of the program say more residential solar power would help ease the burden on our current electric grids. It could also hedge against storm damage outages and surging electricity demand in the summertime.
- ⚖️ Once Upon a Time - In the past, a separate bill to allow Solar for All in PA was squashed. Why? A provision was added in to give solar owners credit for any surplus energy they send to the grid. It’s giving Scrooge McDuck.
- 💡 Budget Battle - Where do we go from here? Solar for All is a line item in the current PA state budget. It was in the version passed by the House, so now it’s up to the Senate (and PS - it’s overdue).
🔥Bottom line: As the cuts keep cutting, programs like Solar for All are up in the air. Will PA’s Senate send the budget through? We’ll keep our eyes peeled. If you’re lucky enough to be sitting on an extra $10K, you better be smart about it, chief. Wanna know how to make the most out of that nest egg? Bop over to this article and check out our top tips.
