Where's The Beef? Not Here.

If you love Wendy’s fries dipped in a Frosty (and you know you do), brace yourself. They just announced they're closing hundreds of restaurants across the US. The company says it’s trying to fix money problems, but it also sounds like some restaurants just weren’t pulling their weight. Let’s check out the fast-food drama in a way that won’t be a gut bomb.

Here are Five Fast Facts about Wendy's closures:

  1. 💰 Big Sales - Global systemwide sales hit $3.4 billion in the last quarter of 2025. That sounds like a lot - it IS a lot - but it still fell short of the previous quarter by 8.3%. Not great, Wendy, not great.
  1. 😖 Store Struggles - Same-store sales dropped a painful 11.3%, meaning fewer people were buying burgers, nuggets, and Frostys at that exact store in the previous quarter. Apparently, the golden arches were calling extra loud!
  1. 🌎 Global Performance - Meanwhile, international stores only dropped about 2%, so Americans are indeed apparently cheating on Wendy’s with other fast food.
  1. 👀 Big Changes - As a result, 300-360 Wendy’s locations are closing in 2026, which is around 5-6% of all its US restaurants. Wendy’s had about 6k US locations before the closures. Basically, Wendy’s is cleaning out its proverbial closet and tossing the old fryers and aprons nobody uses anymore.
  1. 🤔 Strategery - The company is trimming the restaurants that were "consistently underperforming” to focus on restaurants that actually make money. In other words, it's survival of the fittest burger!

🔥Bottom line: The good news is that Wendy’s isn’t disappearing. It’s just going through a rough patch that a gardener might call pruning. By closing hundreds of weaker locations, the company hopes the remaining restaurants will make more money and keep the brand strong (and provide yummy food for a decent price). So you can still get that fries-and-Frostys goodness, but you might have to head to a different location to get it.
