Where's The Good News? Americans' Economic Outlook Is Poor

Hate to be the bearer of bad lemonade but...a new poll shows Americans feel pretty sour about the economy 🍋. As Paychecks across the nation deal with personal financial hardships, their outlook overall is the worst it's been in a decade ⏬.

But could it have something to do with the news itself? 📰 Only 23% of Americans polled said they've heard recent good news about the economy. Should we bring out some dancing ponies? How about some viral cat videos 😻?

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the findings :

  1. 😎🚽 Party Time, Excellent: Pessimism is spread across political parties. 94% of Republicans think the economy's in the toilet. 81% of independents and 54% of Democrats agree.
  2. 🌞 So Last Summer:  About a third of people say things are going well. That's about the same as the results were last summer.
  3. ✂ Cuttin' Back: Many Americans say their economic views have impacted their lifestyles. 54% have cut back on driving and 63% cut back on buying things they don't need.
  4. 🍖 Throw Us A Bone: Most Americans want the government to do more to help. 81% say they're not doing enough to help inflation. 73% don't think enough is being done to fix the supply chain.
  5. 📃💰 Leave Me A-Loan: 49% of U.S. citizens feel the government could do more about the student debt crisis. But opinions seem to vary amongst generations. 70% of Americans younger than 35 say more should be done. That's compared to 50% of those aged 35 to 49, and 35% aged 50 or older

🔥Bottom line: On a brighter note, even though only 23% of Americans feel the overall situation is dim, 53% say they feel good about their personal finances . Not as high as it's been historically, but at least there's some optimism at home. Who knows? Maybe we should add some memes to the nightly news and do the poll again 😉.
