Whisker Expands Facilities, Drops a Load of New Jobs

Apparently, self-cleaning litter boxes are all the rage right now since Whisker, the company that manufactures them, is expanding its Juneau facility with a $10.7M project.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Whisker Expansion:

  1. 🙀 Smell That? - This is actually Whisker’s SECOND expansion at the Juneau facility in two years! The business of robotic poop scooping is booming!
  2. 🐱Digging Down - They’ll add an office to its existing building and an adjacent 150,000 sq. ft. warehouse facility. The current building will then be used as production and office space. The Juneau site is on a slope and that makes things a bit pricier.
  3. 😹Covering It - Whisker is getting $450,000 in state income tax credits over the next three years. It’s contingent on the number of jobs created and the capital investment. They’ve learned something from Foxconn!
  4. 😺A Bit Gritty - The expansion is projected to create 150 jobs. An economic forecast suggests an additional 70 will be indirectly created in the region.
  5. 😻Fast Acting - Those 220 jobs are projected to bring in $417,196 in income tax over the next five years. The expansion is basically paying for itself. Not bad!

🔥Bottom line: Cat poop is contributing to our state’s economy (unlike Foxconn, which was a bunch of horses#*t). Whisker is just another in a seemingly long line of businesses ready to put its faith in the state, and that is definitely not a bad thing.
