Wondering out loud why California hates Michigan sounds like the opening to a joke.
But is Michigan laughing?
Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :
- 🚗 Vroom, Vroom - This fight is about cars – particularly cars that you need to fuel with gasoline. California is about done with them and has passed a law saying that after 2035, no new gas-powered cars can be sold in the state. Ouch.
- 🌳 Go, Green - Environmentalists and people who like clean air are celebrating this move because currently, cars are to blame for about 50% of the state’s greenhouse gasses and smog.
- 🤕 Ouch, Cali. Ouch. - California currently buys about 12% of the new cars produced. So yeah, until the Big Three get their electric act together, this one is gonna hurt.
- 🗡️This Cut Goes Deep - It appears that layoffs are coming, even as Detroit automakers ramp up their production of electric vehicles. Ford is among the first to announce job cuts for about 3,000 people.
- 💩 A Real Pile-On - Apparently, California is an influencer in its spare time. Since the announcement, 17 other states have started to look at putting similar laws in place. Those states include New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Washington, Oregon, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Colorado, Minnesota, Nevada, Virginia, and New Mexico.
🔥Bottom line: Folks say there’s no stopping the EV revolution, except maybe the California government telling people they can’t charge their cars. But, even then, electric vehicles are here to stay. The real question is: can Michigan adapt? What do you think?
Will you ever give up your gas guzzler?
