WI Vets Get a $10M Investment

There are a few things we can all agree on, and one of them is that veterans deserve as much support as possible. Wisconsin is following through with that, giving $10M to services that benefit 300,000 veterans.

Here’s Five Fast Facts about New Veteran Aid:

  1. 🖊️ Power of the Pen - Governor Evers signed the law in mid-October. It takes $10M from the state’s allocated American Rescue Plan Act funds for the investment.
  2. 👂 Listen! - Spending recommendations came from a Blue Ribbon Commission that held community listening sessions throughout the state beginning in May.
  3. 🧾 Budgeting 101 - The committee recommended $4.5M for mental health programs and emergency services. The suicide risk for veterans is  57% higher than any other demographic in the country. That’s a dire statistic.
  4. 📊 Sad Stat - They also directed $2M to rental assistance and housing programs for homeless vets. Nearly 13% of the homeless population in America are veterans, making it another important priority for the committee.
  5. 📈 Leftovers - Finally, $1.5M will go to various outreach programs and $500,000 will fund the Hire Heroes Program.

🔥Bottom line: This is a fantastic investment, though some could argue it’s still not enough, especially with those grim statistics staring us in the face. Is this an election year stunt? Possibly. But again, veterans need our help and they’re getting it.
