Did you know the Browns’ first coach and GM Paul Brown wanted to name the team the Panthers? 🐾🧨 Rawr! Don’t tell Brownie the Elf, he’s a sensitive soul. 🧝
If you live in Ohio and have unclaimed cash floating around, you better file that claim, sis. The Cleveland Browns are plotting and scheming up ways to fund their new home with it. 🏟️
Here’s Five Fast Facts on unclaimed funds and the Browns’ new stadium:
- 🤑 In the Vault - Right now, Ohio’s got a stockpile of roughly $4.8 billion in unclaimed money. Where does it come from? The pool’s made up of cash from Ohioans’ inactive bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten rent and utility deposits, and even stuff from safe deposit boxes.
- 👴🏻 Old Money - Ohio has $1.7 billion in unclaimed funds that have been collecting dust for 10 years or more. It’s this cash pile that the Ohio Senate wants to use for a new sports and cultural project fund. Out of that money, $600 million would go towards the new Browns stadium.
- 💰 Cash Grab - Before this news, Ohioans filed around 1,400 claims to get their hands on their unclaimed money. On June 3rd, the day the proposed stadium plan was announced, claims spiked to over 8,000. On June 4th, almost 17,000 claims were filed.
- 📋 Drawing Up Plans - Although the Browns want to tap the unclaimed cash, they would eventually repay the fund. The plan is to use tax money from stadium projects to make it whole. The owners of the Browns would also pony up as much as $100 million.
- 👎 It’s a No For Me, Dawg - Those against this grand plan say that the Browns don’t need a new stadium - they’re fine downtown. Critics want the state to throw in $350 million to renovate the current arena. Some also believe unclaimed funds should be used to fund food programs or school initiatives across Ohio instead.
🔥Bottom line: Although it’s a pain to get a hold of, if you’ve got unclaimed money, get your grubby hands on it ASAP! In the words of JG Wentworth…it’s your money, use it when YOU need it. And we need it for groceries. Speaking of, just how expensive are groceries in neighboring countries? Find out here!
