Winner Winner, Cheaper Chicken Dinner: GA Grocery Update

Georgia knows a thing or two about chicken! 🐔🔥 It’s a backbone of local farms, a star on dinner tables statewide, and honestly? Nothing’s more American than a hot wing. Want more news worth clucking about? Chicken is one of the few grocery items getting cheep-er. 🐥

Nobody’s claiming your grocery bill is back to normal, because it isn’t (womp womp). 💸 Even so, the frenzy of rising food prices has eased, and a handful of staples have finally started to dip. For Georgians, the tastiest example is waiting in the meat case. 🍗

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Georgia’s cheaper chicken (and more):

  1. 🍗 Cluckin’ Awesome - Retail chicken prices were 2.3% lower this August than a year earlier, and whole chickens dropped about 3%. For a state that raises so much of the country’s poultry, that’s a win you can taste.
  1. 🛒 Bird’s the Word - A lot of this is due to simple supply math. GA farmers raised roughly 1.3 billion broiler chickens in 2025. As production climbed, wholesale prices crept down from their highs. More birds on the market helped nudge prices back down for shoppers.
  1. 🥩 Got Beef? - Not every meat staple is playing along, though. Beef is still pricey because cattle supplies are tight, so that steak sticker shock is still real. If beef’s got you wincing, the chicken aisle is telling a much friendlier story.
  1. 🐣 Chicken or the Egg - Egg prices have tumbled a dramatic 23% over the past year, one of the biggest grocery drops around right now. These come from laying hens, not meat birds, but they show how fast a category can fall once supply improves.
  1. 🥜 Peanut Gallery - Fun fact: GA grows nearly half the country’s peanuts, and big harvests have pushed farm prices down lately. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean cheaper peanut butter at the register, since what you pay also covers processing, packaging, and shipping.

🔥Bottom line: To sum it up for our gorgeous Georgians, chicken, eggs, and a few other staples are cheaper than they were a year ago. Your overall grocery bill hasn’t completely rewound and plenty of prices still sting, but food inflation has hit a cooldown. Next time beef costs make you flinch, remember the chicken aisle has your back.
