Dollar stores do so well here in the states. Why not open one up over in the UK? We’ll call it…Pound Town! 🤑💷
If you shop at your local dollar store, you may have noticed higher prices. 📈 While they’ve been charging more across the board, some of Dollar General’s hikes were shady…and illegal. And in PA, they were caught red handed. 🙀
Here’s Five Fast Facts on PA’s Dollar General settlement:
- 👊 Knuck If You Buck - Dollar General thought it was slick, but the PA Attorney General’s office is on it. After overcharging customers for years, the discount chain now must pay Pennsylvania over $1.5M, thanks to a new settlement.
- 💸 Charles In Charge - Sneaky suspicions led the attorney general and crew to investigate over 900 Dollar General locations across the Keystone State. They found several cases where customers were charged higher prices at checkout than posted on the shelves.
- ❌ (Not) Making the Grade - Just how bad was it? Pretty darn icky. Between 2019 and 2023, over 40% of pricing accuracy inspections at Dollar General got an F. Don’t show mom that report card.
- 🛒 Posting Up - In addition to paying up, Dollar General also has to fix its business practices. According to the settlement, the chain must train employees on the issue and stay on top of shelf tag updates. They also have to post notices at all registers letting customers know the lowest marked price is what they’ll pay.
- 👀 See Something, Say Something - Wanna help keep tabs on Dollar General? If you get charged a higher price at checkout, contact PA’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. Give them a call at 717-787-3391 or shoot an email to scams@attorneygeneral.gov.
🔥Bottom line: Not too long ago, dollar store prices were truly…a dollar. Let’s make sure we’re getting the most bang for our one buck. In other Keystone State news, many residents are on lists to participate in a home repair program. However, funding for those kinds of programs is MIA. Catch up on what’s going on in this article.
