They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? 🍎 How many apples do we need to eat to become immortal? A bushel? Who wants to test it out? 🤔👻
Apples are good for you, but they’re no substitute for quality healthcare when you need it. 🩺 Unfortunately, if you’re a Nevada state worker or retiree, cost increases are coming to a paycheck near you this summer. 💸🥴
Here’s Five Fast Facts on insurance price hikes for Nevada state employees:
- 🏥 What’s Up, Doc? - Thanks to a mid-March ruling, Nevada state workers and retirees will pay more for health insurance beginning in July. The increase is driven by higher healthcare and drug costs. Officials say it’s needed to keep the program running long term.
- 👿 Necessary Evil - Officials also recognize that higher premiums will be a burden for some families. Still, they say the increase is needed to keep up with rising healthcare costs and close budget gaps. Previous rates didn’t fully cover expenses.
- 👊 A Punch In the Paycheck - How much you’ll pay depends on your plan, but the increases can add up. Monthly premiums are expected to rise between $68 and $378 for two of the plans. The changes will be introduced over a three-year period.
- 🙂↔️ No Thanks - There’s been strong push-back from enrollees over the increases. Many have voiced concerns about rising costs and whether they can still afford coverage, especially retirees on fixed incomes. Some worry people may have to drop their plans.
- 👋 Smell Ya Later - The impact could go beyond just higher premiums. Some say rising costs may make it harder for agencies to keep and attract workers. That concern comes alongside a budget deficit in the tens of millions.
🔥Bottom line: Paying any more than we already do for healthcare sucks. Will state workers’ voices help bring costs down? We’ll keep our eyes peeled. Know what else is going way up?
