You’d think that opening a small business in the middle of a global pandemic is one of the worst things you can do, right up there with licking a men’s room door handle. But if you’re in Wisconsin, you’re wrong. In fact, our small businesses have thrived AND grown since 2020. What’s going on?
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Wisconsin’s Small Business Boom:
- ⛹️♀️ Let’s Bounce - The Main Street Bounceback Program has helped more than 4.500 small businesses in all 72 counties stay open and grow throughout the pandemic. The program is so successful that it’s helped put Wisconsin in its strongest financial position in 50 years!
- 📉High on the Low - More than 110,000 small businesses have benefited from the $900m that’s been allocated. That partially explains our record low unemployment rate of 2.4%. It’s FOUR TIMES LOWER than the national rate!
- 👍🏽We’re Number One! - A recent study shows that Wisconsin also ranks first in terms of giving federal relief money to small businesses during and after the pandemic, prioritizing them when necessary. (Eat it, Foxconn)
- 👐But Wait, There’s More - The state has opened up a SECOND round of applications for small businesses aid, this time in the form of recovery grants.
- 💰Deep Breath - Before you panic, Wisconsin received $1.4B federal aid in total to help keep businesses of all sizes open and working, not just the small ones.
🔥Bottom line: Wisconsinites can brag about a lot of things, but standing tall above 49 other states when it comes to business pandemic recovery is truly one of the coolest things we can claim. More local businesses mean more local jobs which means more money for everyone (especially that tourism money.) You can’t argue with that!
