New Poll: “Thriving Employees” on the Decline

Thriving at work? In this economy? Layoffs keep comin’ in hot and we’re still waiting on that raise. ⌚ The least they could do is throw us a pizza party in the breakroom. Talk about a morale booster…boost us right out the front door. 👋

Ever wonder how your fellow wage slaves feel at work? Are they thriving, moisturized, unbothered, and staying in their lanes? 🧖 According to a new poll, things might not be as peachy as they used to be. 🥴

Here’s Five Fast Facts on thriving employees across the globe:

  1. 🪜 Ladder Matters - In a new Gallup poll, employees were asked to picture their lives as steps on a ladder. They ranked them from 0 (absolute dog poo) to 10 (best life ever). Anyone who ranked their current life at a 7 or higher and their future life at an 8 or more was considered “thriving.” Anyone who rated their current and future life at 4 or below got a “suffering” stamp. Below that was labeled “suffering.”
  2. 🎢 On Trend - Things were hunky dory between 2011 and 2019 for employees in Canada and the States. During that time frame, the number of “thriving” employees bounced between 59% and 62%. They also didn’t experience more than a 1% change from year to year. However, in 2020, “thriving” employees fell three points to 58%. In 2024, team thrive only came in at 52%.
  1. 🔃 Highs & Lows - The latest report also showed that 44% of U.S. and Canadian employees are “struggling.” That’s up 3 points from last year. Additionally, 4% are “suffering,” up 1% from last year.
  1. 🌟 Top Spots - Even with these downward trends, the U.S. and Canada region still came in third place globally for the most thriving employees. Coming in first were Australia and New Zealand with 56%. Second, we have Latin America and the Caribbean regions with 54%.
  1. 🌍 Around the World - When we look at the entire globe, things look a tad worse. The poll revealed that only 33% of employees consider themselves “thriving.” Roughly 58% said they were “struggling” and 9% “suffering.” Between 2017 and 2022, “thriving” employees were trending up, but things began to drop in 2023.

🔥Bottom line: Hey, if you’re not “thriving” in your job, don’t get yourself down. Just making it through the day is amazing in our book. The world is changing faster than a Kardashian’s body. Will your job disappear by 2030? Find out in this article!
