OH Joins Forces to Build New Interstate Highway

When you’re ridin’ in your Chevy and you feel somethin’ heavy…you know what time it is. 😬🧻 Get yourself to the nearest Buc-ees bathroom! On your way out, pick us up a couple of sandwiches. 🥪 None for you, tummy ache warrior.

Driving around certain parts of the Buckeye State is a huge pain. Luckily, plans to build a new stretch of interstate could make some magic happen. 🪄

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new interstate corridor:

  1. 🛣️ Life Is A Highway - Interstate 73-74-75 corridor has been in the works for decades. It aims to connect Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. When complete, the 1,000 mile roadway will also run through Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina.
  1. 🚗 Road Trip - In Ohio, the corridor would connect existing bypasses and routes, mostly following U.S. Route 23. From Toledo, the road would run south through Columbus down to the border of Kentucky and West Virginia.
  1. 🚦 Smoother Sailing - Today, driving between Toledo and Columbus is a pain in the rumpus. On the part of Route 23 that runs through Delaware, Ohio, drivers play stop-and-go along the 38 traffic lights in a 20 mile stretch. The new corridor would create a bypass for this section (truckers rejoice).
  1. 🤝 Making Connections - Southern Ohio sits in the middle of Interstates 70, 71, and 77. However, without any direct connections through the region, economic development is challenging. The new corridor will create an easier path between Interstates 270 and 64. It would also make commuting to Columbus much shorter and safer.
  2. 🤓 Study Buddy - Right now, plans are in the works as Ohio’s Department of Transportation works through a $1.5 million feasibility study. The study is set to wrap up by the end of 2026 and will help officials make funding decisions and map out routes.

🔥Bottom line: Anyone who’s had to stop at all 38 of those traffic lights deserves a paid Myrtle Beach vacation. We’d never want to drive a car again! Tempted to sleep through that scheduled job interview? Think twice! Some Ohio lawmakers want to put interview ditchers on a naughty list. Read all about it right here
