Ohio’s Running a High Grocery Tab

Why do they still call it the SUPER-market? 😑 Nothing’s super about it these days! Super…expensive. 🥴💸

From New York to California and everywhere in between, Americans are paying an arm and a leg for groceries. In the Buckeye State, several cities made a recent hit list of who pays the most. 👀

Here’s Five Fast Facts on how much Ohioans spend on groceries:

  1. 🛒 Cart Capers - American grocery bills are at an all-time high. Some cities pay more for essentials than others. According to a recent WalletHub survey of 100 cities across the nation, several Ohio cities were big spenders. Cleveland came in at #2 where residents spend an average of 3.77% of their median household income on groceries.
  1. 🔥 Earn and Burn - Wait a minute, aren’t the grocery prices in Cleveland pretty reasonable? Well, yeah…but that’s not the whole story. Out of all cities in the survey, Cleveland has the lowest household income. That means food costs make up a bigger portion of residents’ pay.
  1. 😱 Holy Toledo - Did any other cities in Ohio make the cut? Toledo came in at #5 where folks spend roughly 3.09% of their income on groceries. Cincinnati took the #8 spot - residents shell out 2.90%.
  1. 🥫 Christopher Could Never - Where does Columbus come into play? Although they had the lowest rank of all Ohio cities surveyed, they came in 26th place. Columbus residents spend around 2.28% of their monthly paychecks at the supermarket.
  1. 🛍️ Ate Mile - Which U.S. city spends the highest portion of their income on groceries? Detroit. Residents fork over 3.78% and the story there is similar to Cleveland’s. Grocery prices aren’t terrible, but income levels are the second lowest in the country.

🔥Bottom line: Look, if anyone makes fun of you for being a coupon queen, laugh all the way to the bank, sweetie. It’s called smart shopping, look it up. Would you trade your work-from-home job for office life if it came with a bigger paycheck? A lot of Americans sure would. Head to this article for the dirt.
