Just how old is a “senior citizen” anyway? 🤔 Some say 65. Others say it’s 50. Heck, we’ll be whatever age you need us to be as long as we’re getting those sweet discounts. 👴🏻
If you didn’t apply for PA’s rent rebate program (and you qualify), you’re in luck. 🍀 You’ll have until the end of the year to get that application in. Here’s more!
Here’s Five Fast Facts on PA’s rent rebate program:
- ⏰ Buying Time - PA’s property or rent tax rebate program has been a huge help for seniors and people with disabilities. Now, Gov. Shapiro has extended the deadline to apply to December 31, 2025 to get more folks on board with these benefits.
- ✅ Fit Check - Who qualifies for the program? Homeowners and renters 65 and older, widows or widowers 50 and older, and those with disabilities 18 and above. You’ll also need to meet specific income requirements. Depending on an applicant’s qualifications, rebates range from $380 to $1,000.
- 🏠 Extra Credit - There are also supplemental rebates available for those who need them the most. These rebates give an extra $190 to $500 boost for property owners with $31,010 or less in income whose property taxes are more than 15% of their total income, and for those who live in these locations: Philadelphia, Scranton, and Pittsburgh.
- 🚀 Rebate Boost - Over the last few years, the program has grown in impact. Back in 2022, 405,493 rebates totaling $192 million were handed out. In 2024, those numbers bumped to 522,434 rebates totaling $319.2 million.
- ⏩ Send It - According to the PA Department of Revenue, almost 400,000 applications have come in this year, already more than this time last year. Thanks to the extension, another 41,000 applications are expected to roll in.
🔥Bottom line: Times are tough for everyone, including seniors and disabled Pennsylvanians living on a fixed income. Hopefully, these rent rebates give a little breathing room and take away a little financial anxiety. You know what else calms you down? A little puff of the green. Well, it all depends on the strain (so we’ve heard). Is PA getting legal weed? Find out here.
