PA’s Tolls Are Pricey AF!

We’ve got some breaking news to share. 📢 A new toll for tying shoes just dropped. We know, it’s just knot fare. 🪢👟

OK, that's fake news. But you know what isn’t? How much Pennsylvania drivers pay in tolls as they make their way across the state. 💰 Just how much are we talkin’? See for yourself! 👇

Here’s Five Fast Facts on tolls in PA:

  1. 🚙 Cash Dash - Pennsylvania’s toll roads are basically drive-thru cash machines. In 2023, drivers traveled more than 100.1 million miles, generating $1.87 billion in toll revenue, the fourth highest in the country.
  2. 🧌 Toll Troll - Recent federal data shows some states charge drivers more in tolls than others (how rude). Delaware leads the list at $41.12 per 1,000 miles driven, followed by New Jersey ($26.92), New York ($22.10), Pennsylvania ($18.68) and Maryland ($17.71). These stats are based on 2023 toll revenue compared with the total miles driven in each state.
  1. 🛣️ Turnpike Gripes - For PA’s road warriors, this probably comes as no surprise. Crossing the Pennsylvania Turnpike costs about $113, making it the most expensive toll road in the country. And it’s far ahead of New York’s Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway at $28.
  1. 😎 Easy Street - Using E-ZPass cuts the cost roughly in half, which helps explain why about 85% of drivers used it in 2025. Tolls still went up 4% on January 1st, though that was the smallest increase in over a decade. Additional increases of 3.5% in 2027 and 3% in 2028 are expected.
  1. 🦺 Work Zone - All that toll booth cash adds up to more than just a little Turnpike maintenance. Since 2007, toll revenues have funded about $1.8 billion in transportation projects statewide.

🔥Bottom line: With all this toll money flowing, can we at least get some of these potholes patched up? The last round of winter storms was a doozy. Speaking of all things roadways, the conflict in the Middle East is throwing a wrench in gas prices. Wondering what to expect at the pump? Head to this article to see how things could play out.
