Which Chex Mix ingredient above would you ditch? 🤔 We think the answer’s pretty obvious. No one likes those circle pretzels. They’re making us thirsty! 🥨
If you’re hosting a holiday get together, you better make your list and check it twice. Between tariffs and our pal inflation, some items might give you sticker shock. 🛒🤪 Thankfully, we’ve got some smart swaps.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the most expensive holiday groceries:
- 🥩Prime Time - If prime rib is on your menu, you could spend up to $25 a pound. If you’ve got a Costco membership, buy that beef in bulk to save. You can always freeze what you don’t need for later. If your guests aren’t bougie brats, you could also serve larger cuts. You’ll pay significantly less per pound.
- 🍫 I’ll Melt with You - What’s a holiday feast without some sweet treats? If you’re making cookies, chocolate chips get more expensive this time of year. For a shortcut that doesn’t skimp on sweetness, buy chocolate bars instead. Chop ‘em up and the kids won’t even miss the chips.
- 🫐 Berry Good - From pies to tarts, fresh berries are always a holiday hit. However, they’re also a hit in the wallet. Since they’re not in season, expect to pay more. Depending on your recipe, opt for the cheaper frozen kind. You can also plan your menu around seasonal fruits. How ‘bout them apples?
- 🍷 Whine and Dine - For all the winos in the house, European wines now come with a 15% tariff. How’s that for sour grapes? But here’s a silver lining. Champagne’s less expensive during the holiday season! Don’t wait for NYE to pop that bubbly.
- 🧂 Spice Up Your Life - Everyone and their grandmother stocks up on spices this time of year…and retailers know it. Price hikes on staples like nutmeg and cinnamon are common, but they decrease in January. Before you buy a new bottle, check your pantry. Spices love to hide behind…other spices. Or better yet, snag some from your neighbor!
