Here’s Five Fast Facts on new businesses in Pennsylvania:

  1. 💪 Like a Boss - According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, PA ranks in the top three states for five-year new business survival. In the Keystone State, roughly 56% of new businesses still have their doors open after five years. 
  1. 🙈 Failing Forward - PA’s new biz survival rate is significantly higher than the national average. As a country, around 51.6% of new businesses fail within their first five years.
  1. 🚀 Take Me Home, Country Roads - Which other states rounded out the top three? Pennsylvania tied with Alaska at 56%. Connecticut came in second with a 57.5% survival rate. West Virginia took the number one spot with 57.6%.
  1. 📉 Bottom Feeders - Washington is the nation’s biggest business loser. There, only 41.1% of businesses make it after five years. Who else is in the bottom three? Missouri (43.2%) and Washington, DC (44.7%).
  2. 💰 Growing Up - These new stats are just one recent win for Pennsylvania and business. According to another recent analysis by Moody’s, PA is the only state in the Northeast with a growing economy.
