Bad news for the green energy haters out there: a recent study shows that Wisconsin can add $16B to our economy through net zero emissions. How realistic is that, though?
Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :
- 🍃 100 to 0 - The totally unbiased study, conducted by Clean Wisconsin and Renew Wisconsin, shows that Wisconsin can make a cost-effective move to 100% net-zero emissions throughout our economy by 2050. Sounds good, right? Maybe?
- 🌊 Happy, Healthy - Wellness highlights include saving $2-$4B in health care costs and saving up to 63 lives per million residents. Which, being alive and healthy is a good thing!
- ☀️ Job Hunt - The report also says this future setup would create an additional 68,000 jobs in manufacturing, electricity and other services. Which is great, but we already have a worker shortage AND record-low unemployment (how is that possible?) where we are now.
- 🌬️ To Spend or To Spend? - Speaking of cost, it appears delaying any action would cost $21B more from present costs over the next 28 years. I guess we get to choose how we lose gobs of money.
- 🌳 Fine Print - Here’s the “Yeah, but…” part: the report also says getting to net-zero needs $100B of investments from utilities, businesses, and consumers through 2050. I see us getting to Mars before that happens.
🔥Bottom line: The numbers in this report are impressive and they’re based in fact and reality. However, the groups who authored the survey are big supporters of the net-zero emissions concept. That said, if we can pull off even one of the things the report suggests, our state could be an innovator and all this stuff would be just another great way to attract new residents and better Paychecks!!!
