Tooth Fairy Economic Update!

Losing teeth is a big milestone…if you’re under 12. When you lose teeth as an adult, you stop getting paid and start getting gigantic dental bills. 🤬 Fun fact: putting a broken crown under your pillow does absolutely nothing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

While we’re talkin’ teeth, have you wondered how the Tooth Fairy is doing in this crazy economy? A new poll just dropped and we’re chewing on the latest stats. 📊

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Tooth Fairy and the economy:

  1. 🦷 Budget Bites - According to Delta Dental’s latest Tooth Fairy Poll, kids are getting less coin from our fave fairy tooth mother. This year, kids are receiving 14% less than they were last year ($5.01 instead of last year’s $5.84). This decline is one of the most significant the poll’s seen in 27 years.
  1. 💵 Chew On This - Kiddos who get a little something extra are also coming up short. When it comes to additional gifts, 16% of kids report receiving something this year compared to 21% in 2024. Yet overall, the average amount of money the Tooth Fairy leaves has increased by 285% since 1998. Back then, kids got an average of $1.30 per tooth compared to today’s $5.01.
  1. 🧚 Top Tooth - Out of all teeth lost, the first one is usually the biggest payout. A third of parents say the Tooth Fairy spent the most on that initial chomper. However, the first tooth payout has dropped 12% since last year (from $7.09 to $6.24).
  1. 🐝 Busy Bee - Even though kids are getting less cash, the Tooth Fairy is visiting more homes. According to the poll, she’s stopped at 83% of American households this year, a jump from last year’s 78%. Additionally, roughly one in four kiddos say the Tooth Fairy is one of the top surprises of the year. Santa who?
  1. 😁 Stocks & Smiles - Wanna nerd out? The Tooth Fairy Poll historically mirrors the economy and tracks the trends of the S&P 500. But since 2023, the trends have stopped playing matchy matchy. In the last year, single tooth value declined by 14% while the S&P 500 jumped 26%.

🔥Bottom line: Does our fairy tooth mother throw in any extra cash for dental implants? What about a new set of Turkish veneers? The Tooth Fairy isn’t the only one impacted by our roller coaster economy. Airlines are feeling it too, especially Spirit. What would happen if Spirit Airlines closed up shop?
