Population Growth in Columbus is HOT!

What's the opposite of cold Ohio winters? The hot population growth in Columbus! 🥵📈 And if you're looking for a new flame to heat up with, the dating pool in Cap City must be teaming with new bros and babes! 😅🌹 OK, that got a little out of hand. Good thing we're not known for matchmaking.

According to a new report, the population in the Columbus metro area grew WAY more than all other areas of Ohio between 2000 and 2020.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the latest population stats :

  1. 📊 Gains and Losses - Overall, the OH population grew by 3% through the last two decades. If you take the Columbus metro area out of the picture, the state's population growth is actually at a loss of 1%, or roughly 100K residents.
  2. 🧑‍💻 The Labor Lowdown - Central OH added around 215,000 people to the labor force. However, the state's overall labor force declined by 91,000 workers.
  3. 💵 Bigger Pockets - Median household income in Columbus was $65,044 in 2020, a 50% increase! Other metro areas across the state only rose by 38%.
  4. 😎 All The Cool Kids Are Doing It - Even with all the hype in Columbus, Ohio's other big metro areas experienced a large population drop in residents aged 54 and younger.
  5. 🏭 Leaving a Legacy - Young people moving to Columbus/Central Ohio say they're relocating for school and work. Many other big cities in Ohio are considered "legacy cities", which peaked with a past manufacturing boom and have been on the decline for quite some time.

🔥Bottom line: Columbus is totes on the up-and-up. Companies are moving into the city like it's going out of style and new jobs are on the rise. Will the rest of the Buckeye state's top cities start to see the same growth? Let's hope so, because no one likes coming down with a case of FOMO. We'll keep the pulse on it and report back!

Do you live in Columbus? If so, is it really bumpin'?!
